The Assessment Process

A full diagnostic Dyslexia assessment is appropriate from age 7 and begins with gathering a range of background information about your child.  After an initial telephone conversation, I will send you questionnaires for both home and school so that I can begin to get to know your child, their strengths and the areas that they may be struggling with.

I will then meet your child for a face to face session either at your home, their school (if they can accommodate me) or at my house. During the session, we will do a range of activities and tasks that assess underlying cognitive ability,  working memory, speed of processing and phonological awareness plus attainment in spelling, writing, reading and, if appropriate, numeracy.  These take around 3 hours in total.  The tests are varied and carried out in a way that hopefully keeps them engaged and interested.  I will always ensure that we have regular breaks throughout and can modify timings, length sessions etc to meet any additional needs that your child may have - we can discuss this during our initial phone chat.

Following the assessment, a detailed report is written and shared within 3 weeks.  This lengthy report will follow the SASC guidelines and will include diagnostic decision. It will explain your child's strengths, weaknesses and include personalised recommendations for them at home and at school.   I then offer a 30 minute follow-up meeting where you can ask any questions about the report.

A deposit of £100 is required when the booking is confirmed, and the remaining fee is due on the day of the assessment.
